PRO 48: the Freezer Side (PRO4850 and 648PRO)
The PRO 48 is the 48-inch stainless refrigerator-freezer of Sub-Zero's PRO Series: today's PRO4850 and the earlier 648PRO. How the freezer is laid out
The current PRO 48 keeps its frozen food on stainless steel shelves and in pull-out freezer storage; the ice container is lifted out of a drawer pulled to full extension. Dual Refrigeration gives the freezer its own system, and separate controls let the refrigerator, the refrigerator drawers and the freezer each hold a different setting. The rating plate is inside a drawer, and its model and serial decide which parts fit. On an older 648PRO, work from that plate rather than the current guide: the two share a name and a width, not every part.
Where freezer-side faults come from
A drawer loaded with ice and frozen food is a heavy load on its slides. When it stops closing square, its seal stops meeting the cabinet and frost gathers on the food nearest the gap. That work is covered under freezer drawer repair; a torn seal lands in the gasket band.
Airflow is the second source. One fan moves the cold inside the freezer; another cools the condenser behind the grille, and a slow one shows as long running and a warm top zone. The condenser fan motor cost page covers that part. The board reads the sensors and switches the fans and the defrost, so a touch panel that shows odd numbers or will not respond is metered there.
Why the figure moves
Two PRO 48 jobs in the same band rarely cost the same: access behind stainless panels and how far the fault has spread both shift the number, as set out under what moves a price inside its band. The price is stated after diagnosis, before any part is fitted.

Where are the freezer controls on a PRO4850?
On the grille. The current PRO 48 has two external touch displays there, each running its own temperature zones, and the freezer display is also where the ice maker is switched on. Is a 648PRO the same machine as a PRO4850?
No. The 648PRO and its glass-door twin, the 648PROG, appear in Sub-Zero's 600 Series design guide, offered only in classic stainless and fitted only with an eleven-inch grille, and either could be built in or stand free. The PRO4850 is the current model with its own guide. Parts are matched to the plate, not the badge.
How often should the condenser on a PRO 48 be cleaned?
Sub-Zero gives six to twelve months for the 648PRO and both current PRO sizes. Power the unit off first, then rotate the bottom of the grille upward, brush and vacuum the coil in the direction of the fins, and wear gloves. A clogged condenser is one of the first causes Sub-Zero lists for temperature loss.
